Sandra Mendez, Assistant Director of Community Services
Sandra A. Mendez presently serves as the Assistant Director for the Community Services Division managing Community Action Programs throughout Maricopa County. She is an Arizona native, with over 29 years of experience administering social service programs targeted at low-income individuals and families. Her career has focused primarily on addressing the causes of poverty in local communities and has held various positions throughout her career including case worker, strategic planner, contracts administrator, and policy analyst. Sandra acted as the State Program Director for 15 years, while administering various Community Action Programs, including the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), the Short Term Crisis Services Program, and various other benefit programs providing basic needs services to limited income households. Ms. Mendez also served as the State Services Director with the National Association for State Community Services Programs, providing training and technical assistance to states in the administration of Community Action and other federally funded programs.
