Peoria Avenue: Citrus Road to Cotton Lane

Thank you for your interest in the Peoria Avenue project. MCDOT is doing a scoping study to determine what roadway improvements are needed to address future capacity, drainage, connection to SR303, and driveway access along the Peoria Avenue corridor.

MCDOT has developed three different alternatives, as well as a no build option for future roadway improvements. We invite you to look over these alternatives and submit your comments at the link below.

Your input is important. All comments will be shared with the project team as they work to improve this section of roadway.

Alternative 1
Existing north curb and shared use path to remain. Provide raised median with intermittent access points. Provide roundabouts at Peoria/Citrus and Peoria/175th Ave intersections and signalized intersection at Peoria/Cotton.

Pros
  • Flooding of roadway will be mitigated
  • Vehicle delay will be significantly reduced at intersections
  • Roundabouts provide reduced operating speeds and U-turn opportunities
Cons
  • Requires exception by Maricopa Water District for easement configuration

Alternative 2
Existing north curb and shared use path to be removed/reconstructed. Provide raised median with intermittent access points. Provide signalized intersections at Peoria/Citrus and Peoria/Cotton and roundabout at Peoria/175th Ave.

Pros
  • Flooding of roadway will be mitigated
  • Vehicle delay will be significantly reduced at intersections
  • Roundabout at 175th Ave provides reduced operating speeds and U-turn opportunity
  • Meets Maricopa Water District easement guidelines
Cons
  • Removes/reconstructs recently installed curb, sidewalk, landscaping, lighting on north side of road

Alternative 3
Existing north curb and shared use path to remain. Provide flush median along the corridor except at signalized intersections of Peoria/Citrus, Peoria/175th Ave, and Peoria/Cotton.

Pros
  • Flooding of roadway will be mitigated
  • Vehicle delay will be significantly reduced at intersections
  • Flush median maintains full access for majority of adjacent properties
Cons
  • Requires right-of-way acquisition along south side adjacent properties
  • Requires exception by Maricopa Water District for easement configuration

No Build Option

Pros
  • No right-of-way impacts
  • No utility impacts

Cons
  • Existing historical flooding of roadway will continue
  • Intersections will experience high vehicle delay
  • Incompatible with corridor west or east of project limits including future development

Your input is important. Please take our survey to submit your comments.
